Since 1995 Sun Valley Animal Shelter has provided loving, compassionate care to unwanted dogs and cats of the northwest valley. We strive to give comfortable, temporary housing, medical care and vaccinations, good food and companionship to the scores of homeless companion animals that need our help finding loving, permanent families. News and Events Mary's Story If you haven't heard yet, this is rather shocking. One cold October evening, this seven pound shih-tzu was dumped out front of an employee's house. She scratched at the door, somehow knowing it was the right house to go to. Her jaw is broken, she is missing an eye, and she has about four punctures around her neck from a dog bite. She has almost no hair, and bad teeth. That night, she enjoyed playing with the dogs in the house, went to the bathroom fine, and eats just fine, even with her jaw hanging loose. She was brought into the shelter, cleaned up, shaved, and put on antibiotics. We are currently raising funds for her surgery. She needs a complete eye removal as well as her jaw wired - along with a spay and dental. We have scheduled her for surgery, and are still raising funds! If you would like to donate, there are several ways: Follow the link on our page to "Donate Now", you may donate over the phone with visa or mastercard, or send a check, ATTN: Mary's Fund. 11/03/09 Update The good news: Mary went in for surgery this morning to repair her jaw and fix her teeth. After being under for five hours, she is resting comfortably and getting great care from our very own vet technician. The bad news: Our original estimate of $1,500.00 has been surpassed due to the extensive injuries to Mary's jaw. The bill from the Dental surgeon came in just short of $5,000.00, and Mary still needs to get healthy so we can repair her missing eye and have her spayed. The outpouring of donations have been amazing, our thanks to everyone who has generously donated to our shelter for Mary. Your contributions are truly appreciated. ![]() We are HIRING! We are building onto our shelter! We performed a ground breakingceremony on August 10th, 2009 for our 2,000 square foot medical building. This new building will provide expanded surgical and medical facilities, plus quarantine and isolation rooms, and multi-purpose areas for pet introductions, public outreach programs, and volunteer orientations, among others. Generous support from the Nina Pulliam Charitable Trust is gratefully acknowledged for making this project possible. We expect the construction on this building to be completed some time in December 2009. We are seeking donations toward our Building Fund. If you would like to donate to support the medical needs of Sun Valley Animal Shelter's 'Orphans of the Desert', please mail checks to: Sun Valley Animal Shelter 7150 N. 110th Ave. Glendale, AZ 85307
