  Firefighter kit aids injured pets
Brent Whiting

Glendale firefighters call it the "Fido Bag," a medical kit used to offer first aid to four-legged creatures.

The orange tote bags were unveiled this week during a press conference at the Sun Valley Animal Shelter, 7150 N. 110th Ave.

Barry Korb, board president of the group, made a $4,000 offering to help pay for the emergency kits. advertisement

"Hopefully, we can save some animals," he told reporters Wednesday.

Elio Pompa, a deputy Glendale fire chief, said the innovative bags are designed to aid injured pets that are often pulled from burning homes.

On an average, Glendale firefighters can expect to find dogs or cats in six out of 10 residential fires, Pompa said.

The Fido Bag, which will be placed on fire trucks, will contain an oxygen mask and other medical supplies for use with injured pets.

Bashas’ Thanks A Million

Bashas’ is proud to be the hometown grocer for families throughout our state.  They are offering the Thanks a Million for Friends and Neighbors program, where raising money for Sun Valley Animal Shelter is as easy as grocery shopping at Bashas’.

 How does it work?

The 2007-2008 Thanks A Million program begins September 1, 2007 and will run through March 31, 2008.  Please ask a Bashas’ cashier to link your group ID number (23517) to your Bashas’ Thank You Card on or after September 1.  You only have to link your number once and the link will remain active until March 31.

Bashas’ will donate 1 percent of the total sales linked to Sun Valley Animal Shelter, up to a $2,500 donation.  Thanks to everyone who used the program last year.

SVAS’ group identification number is 23517.

This is an easy way to see that Sun Valley Animal Shelter gets a large donation to make lives better for our companion animals, our orphans of the desert.
